"He's a friend and I'm sad to see him go" - Jonathan Sexton backs Zebo to shine abroad

When it comes to leaving an Irish province to go abroad and balancing that with an Ireland career, Jonathan Sexton is someone who can give advice to Simon Zebo on the subject.

But while the Leinster out half's move to Racing 92 in 2013 did come with the caveat that he would still be selected for Ireland given his over-riding importance at 10, it's less clear if the same policy will apply to Zebo now that he is leaving Munster at the end of the season and heading to France and possibly even Racing.

Adrian caught up with Aer Lingus ambassador Sexton and he gave his take on the news that his Ireland team-mate is departing the provincial season to try his hand abroad.

"I know Zeebs really well. He's a friend and I'm sad to see him go," he said.

"I think he's a big loss to Munster. He's a big figure down there and a crowd favourite and I think all the guys will wish him well."

Sexton continued: "It's a big opportunity for him at the same time and it wouldn't have been an easy decision to potentially give up a World Cup if Ireland go on and do what we want to do over the next couple of years and he's not part of it, it could be a regret but everyone has to make their own decisions at different times."

If it is Racing he heads to, Sexton predicts Zebo to fit in well and added that "hopefully for Munster, he'll come back in a couple of years and hopefully from an Ireland point of view as well".

"He's a good character and he's infectious so whatever organisation he's in with his good mood, he brings a lot of energy to the place. I'm sure he'll go well," said Sexton, adding that "I wish him all the best".

Aer Lingus ambassador Johnny Sexton was speaking at an event to mark 30% off fares to many popular European destinations. Book by 30th October for travel from 1st November to 21st December.
