Keith Wood on Lam: "I'm delighted for him I have to say"

Keith Wood and Stephen Ferris joined Off the Ball tonight to discuss Pat Lam's shock move to Bristol next season.

Speaking of the move, former Ireland captain Wood said: "I think it was a pretty huge shock...you don't want to see it happen. You don't kind of believe these things are going to happen because of the fairy tale story that last year was in particular with Connacht."

"You think these things will last forever. I think when you take a step back from it, you would say: "Everybody would in every job that they have. You want to improve yourself as much as you can and some of that is where you're working and some of that is financial. Some of that is challenges going forward"

"I'm delighted for him I have to say and of course i'm sad for the Connacht fans because he's filled a fairly huge hole in Connacht. He's brought them to the place of silverware which they've never had before but sport is fickle. Most jobs are fickle too, mind you."

Ferris added: "You look at Pat Lam and what he has done at Connacht and if an opportunity comes up, he's in the same line of thinking as me, you only live once and if an opportunity comes up you really want to go for, then why not?"

"He's done such a good job an Connacht that everyone can say farewell to Pat Lam and thank him for what's done," he added.

Lam brought Connacht unprecedented success beating Irish rivals Leinster in the Pro12 final last season. Bristol are struggling in the Aviva Priemiership and currently sit bottom. Bristol are hoping he can emulate the success he has had out west.
