Leo Cullen on Sexton: "He backed the forwards and they delivered"

Leinster recorded an impressive 34-18 win away in Glasgow on Saturday to take a firm grip on proceedings in Pool 3.

Two tries from Cian Healy along with scores from Johnny Sexton and Noel Reid secured the Irish province a bonus point win in Scotland.

Speaking to Off the Ball's Dave McIntyre after the match, Leinster Head Coach Leo Cullen said: "Yeah it's good. It was pleasing today. It's a difficult place to come here and Glasgow had some really big performances in Europe over the last few seasons.

"There was a lot of things last week that I thought we could have done better but they worked hard during the course of this week and it's really pleasing to get the win and to get a bonus point as well is doubly satisfying.

"It was a game, it was a little bit unusual, where we knew that all week the conditions were likely to be difficult so I thought the forwards acquitted themselves well. Line-out, scrum - the set-piece in general was good. You had two huge call from Johnny Sexton in the first half: He goes to the corner twice and the forwards come up with tries so it was great leadership at the time.

"Those close calls he backed his forwards and the forwards delivered, especially the one on half time where probably the more logical thing at the time in most people's eyes is to take the shot at goal but he backed the forwards and they delivered. They were two huge moments in the game, I thought."

Asked about Sexton's influence on the squad, Cullen said: "Because Johnny wasn't involved last week - I think he's had that extra bit of focus on Glasgow and he's leading the group really well at the moment. Isa, obviously with his injury last week, and he's been fantastic since he has come back in. Yeah, he's driving the group in a really positive way," he added.
