It's etched in rugby folklore. It's one of those amazing sports results. Like the Republic of Ireland beating England in Stuttgart or Jack's Army overcoming Italy in Giants Stadium.

That incredible Limerick sports shock, is up there with the most famous in world sport.

The fabled All Blacks never beaten in Ireland by the national side, but on October 31st 1978 a Munster 15 achieved what was hitherto considered impossible.

A 12-0 triumph over the visiting New Zealand side in Thomond park is STILL talked about today.

Now it seems one of Limerick's modern day heroes man may be fit enough to face New Zealand next month.

Munster scrum half Conor Murray has yet to play this season due to a troublesome neck injury.

The Patrickswell native was left out of Joe Schmidt's initial 42 man squad for the Autumn Internationals, but has been in the national camp this week.

Speaking ahead of Saturday's Test against Italy in Chicago, forwards coach Simon Easterby said Murray has yet to be ruled out of the 2018 All Blacks game.

Whenever teams are faced with the impossible games like Munster's victory over the All Blacks in 1978 are referenced.

Needless to say the Munster players involved are rightly still celebrated.

Memories from a golden age!

Only 12,000 were at the match but needless to say thousands more claim to be there!

Don't expect rugby fans from the Southern province to stop talking about this anytime soon.
