New Zealand star gives his World Cup medal to 14-year-old boy tackled by security guard

One teenage rugby fan left Twickenham with a lot more than he bargained for last night - a World Cup winning medal.

New Zealand's Sonny Bill Williams gave his to 14-year-old Charlie Lines after he was tackled by a security guard when he ran onto the pitch after the final.

The steward "smoked" the kid with a tackle that any of Williams' teammates would be proud of but the young All Blacks fan would get his moment. He ensured the security guard that the kid was just fine and escorted him back to his seat in the stand before putting the medal around Lines' neck, all the while shaking hands with fans.

After the incident, Williams told One News, "I was walking around doing a lap of honour with the boys and a young fella came running out and he got smoked by the security guard, like full-on tackled him. I felt sorry for the little fella."

And while Williams remained cool and calm throughout the entire situation, he explained how it would have gone down had the circumstances been different, "If that was a younger brother or cousin I would have given the security guard a hiding. But I just picked the kid up and took him back to his old lady and tried to make the night more memorable for him. Better [for the medal] to be hanging around his neck than mine.”

Williams' record on the rugby field is impressive, as is his record in the boxing ring. He has fought and won seven professional fights, his latest coming in a January 2015 bout against Chauncey Welliver and we are quite certain that he is not lying about the "hiding" he might have given the security guard.

New Zealand made history by becoming the first team to retain the Rugby World Cup yesterday, after their 34-17 victory against Australia.
