Paul O'Connell has added another accolade to his bulging collection

Paul O'Connell has been named as the Guinness Rugby Writers of Ireland Player of the Year at the annual awards ceremony tonight at the Guinness Storehouse.

The Ireland captain was rewarded for his outstanding performances during this year's Six Nations when he led his side to back-to-back titles.

The Irish team also picked-up the Dave Guiney Team of the Year prize, while Sophie Spence was named as the Women's Player of the Year.

Ahead of Saturday's match against Scotland, O'Connell says that the nature of last weekend's performance against Wales has raised the level of expectation within the squad.

"The onus now is on the team starting on Saturday to prepare 100 per cent to the best of their ability to be able to deliver something similar in terms of accuracy and in terms of detail that the group delivered on Saturday [against Wales]," he said.
