Pro12 Round-Up: Connacht consolidate top with Leinster in tow

Connacht 30-22 Ospreys

Connacht made it five wins in a row after besting a spirited Ospreys challenge at the Sportsground on Saturday.

Matt Healy and Bundee Aki were once again in sparkling form, with the two combining for Connacht's opening score after just two minutes.

Aj MacGinty then crossed in the corner for Connacht's second try as he continues to grow into the 10 jersey out west, but their Welsh counterparts hit back with Ben John and Dan Baker tries to put them into the lead.

However, after the restart Healy evaded the tacklers to squeeze over for his ninth try of the season before Rhys Webb responded for the Ospreys.

In the end it was the boot of Craig Ronaldson that made the difference as he kicked three penalties and three conversions to keep the Westerners top.

Leinster 27-10 Zebre

Leinster kept the pressure on Connacht at the top of the table by claiming all five points from a dog fight in the RDS on Sunday.

Zebre conceded 52 points to the visitors in the reverse fixture, and early on it looked like a similar scoreline could be on the cards after Luke McGrath and Dominic Ryan tries in the opening exchanges.

However, the Italians got their affairs in order and a penalty from former Leinster out-half Ian McKinley got Zebre off the mark.

The hosts only led 12-3 at the break but Adam Byrne widened the gap after he collected a superb Zane Kirchner chip ahead.

However, Zebre refused to fold and deservedly scored a try when Federico Ruzza dived over after a sustained period of pressure deep in Leinster territory.

The bonus point eventually came for the home side with the clock nearing the red Leinster mauled over the line with Dan Leavy touching down.

Treviso 13-16 Munster

Ian Kealtey's late penalty was enough to spare Munster's blushes from another embarrassing result as they edged out Treviso in Italy

The result puts Munster into 6th place on the Pro12, and back into contention for the a Champions Cup place.

The Italians are rooted to the bottom of the table but led for the majority of this game thanks to the boot of Jayden Hayward and a Roberto Barbieri try.

Munster did cross first however, with Gerhard Van Der Heever getting over out wide before Francis Sailli's second Munster try leveling the game after Treviso took the initiative.

Keatley and Hayward exchanged penalties before the Munster flyhalf struck with five minutes left on the clock for victory.

Munster also survived the final moments with 14 men after Dave Kilcoyne was binned late on.

Cardiff 23-13 Ulster

Rhys Patchell put in an excellent display as Cardiff struck late to snatch victory away from Ulster at Cardiff Arms Park on Sunday.

Patchell and Aled Summerhill both struck in the final eight minutes to swing the game in Cardiff's favour and deny Ulster a losing bonus point.

Paddy Jackson, who captained Ulster, gave them a 6-0 lead before Patchell got Cardiff off the mark with two penalties of his own.

Craig Gilroy's sixth try of the season set Ulster on their way but they failed to hold out after the late fireworks in Wales.
