REACTION : Leinster Kings Of Europe Again

“A lot of squeaky bum moments during that game.”

Former Leinster man Shane Byrne has experience playing in huge games of rugby but couldn’t refrain from being engulfed in the extremely close hard fought win Leinster had over Racing 92 in Bilbao yesterday to lift the Champions Cup.

You can hear reaction from the big win including Shane’s below;

Byrne gave his thoughts on the final where he was very complimentary of Leinster’s opponents Racing 92 following the incredibly close game.

 “You gotta hand it to Racing.”

“They knew the kind of moves Leinster would try and they came up hard in defence to try cut that off.”

“Leinster couldn’t get into the game the way they wanted.”

Leinster captain Isa Nacewa who played his last European game for the Blues stepped up to the plate and delivered certainly in the eyes of Shane Byrne.

“Nacewa hadn’t been kicking out of the hand very well during the game; the game hadn’t been going his way.”

“That added to it the fact that he had to start kicking because Sexton was receiving treatment.”

“The quality of the guy. He’s retiring at the end of the season. No better man deserving the plaudits, it added to the tension of the game.”

Shane placed a lot of the credit to Leinster’s huge turn around in performances over the past year and a half to the coach Leo Cullen who is a former team mate of Byrne.

“I think his achievement is also outstanding. He doesn’t take all the plaudits; he just gets the job done.”

“As a player he was very clinical, a huge talent, left no stone unturned to attaining goals he wanted to do.”

“Captaining three Heineken Cup winning sides it just naturally lead on to the way he manages these players and get’s the best out of them.”

Also on the show this morning was Dublin hurling captain Chris Crummey ahead of their opening Leinster championship game today against Kilkenny in Parnell Park. Also, Shamrock Rovers striker Graham Burke spoke on his first senior international call up to Martin O’Neill’s side.
