Ronan O'Gara handed two-game ban for referee comments

Ronan O’Gara has been handed a two-game ban by French rugby chiefs for his criticism of officials in a Top 14 match last month.

The ex-Munster man, now a coach with Racing Metro in Paris, hit out at referee Jacob van Heerden after the awarding of a controversial try to Stade Francais wing Julian Arias in the recent Paris derby and has subsequently been hit with the punishment.

O’Gara has already received a one-week ban during his time in France for actions in a match last season.

Head coach Laurent Labit faced the worse of the punishment, however, being slapped with a 15-week ban. Labit accused the officials of ‘amateurism’ and of staging a ‘hold-up.’

The Frenchman has also earned his side a €50,000 fine for the comments, which were seen to damage the reputation and integrity of the South African ref.
