Rugby Round-Up: England stroll past Uruguay in Pool A dead rubber

England ran in ten trys as they romped past Pool A minnows Uruguay to finish their tournament on a positive note, as they beat their South American opponents 60-3.

Felipe Berchesi got Uruguay off the mark with a penalty but that was all they would have to cheer about as England ran in three first half trys, with Anthony Watson grabbing the opener and Nick Easter dotting down twice the first from the back of a maul and the second a pick and go from a metre out.

England kicked on in the second half with Watson grabbing his second, before Henry Slade and Jack Nowell had went over for two quickfire trys;

Nick Easter the grabbed his hat-trick after an English maul drove back Uruguay from the 22', before Nowell got his second;

And then a third for the Exeter wing;

England were awarded a penalty try as the clock went over 80 minutes as a scrambling Uruguayan defense committed multiple infringements as England looked to get over. England's back line looked particularly impressive, with Owen Farrell and Henry Slade in the centre positions and Nowell, Watson and Alex Goode providing width.

The convincing victory will prove little consolation to English fans, as they become the first hosts of the Rugby World Cup to exit at the pool stage, and to add insult to injury, if they had kicked that penalty to draw the game against Wales, they would now be in a quarter-final.

Its all hypothetical of course, as Pool A's top two went head to head in a titanic clash in Twickenham earlier this evening. It was the Wallabies who came out on top, with Bernard Foley kicking them to victory after a monstrous defensive effort. The game saw three yellow cards, two for Australia which left them with 13 men going into the final quarter and the game firmly in the balance. You can read the full match report of that one right here.

Earlier this afternoon, Scotland secured their place in the quarter-final's after edging out Samoa in a 7 try thriller. For the majority of the game it looked as if Samoa would cause another upset but captain Greg Laidlaw inspired his side to a 36-33 victory, which secured a quarter final clash with the Wallabies next weekend.
