Cuala senior hurling captain Paul Schutte is coming off the back of an impressive season were his side successfully defended their Dublin senior hurling crown with a win over Kilcormac Kiloughney of Offaly last week and they are looking to do the same with their All Ireland title.
They face Liam Mellows from Galway in the semi final in February 2018.
Schutte joined us on Now That’s What I Call Sport today.
The 28 year old spoke about their second Leinster triumph in a row overcoming Kilcormac Killoughey with a 1-23 to 1-09 point scoreline and the scenes back in the dressing room following the win.
“The managers let us away with a bit of a sing song.”
“It’s something we like to do after the games are having a sing song and let the hair down.”
The defender was then asked what his song would be should the mic be handed to him.
“I’d struggle my way through My Girl by the Temptations”.
Something that helped Paul from a young age was the healthy competition his mother would create between him and his brother Mark. Schutte acknowledged it is something that helped hugely in his game.
“I was lucky that Mark was bigger.”
“She’d start going mad if one of us won too many balls in a row.”
“She would say, Why aren’t you competing hard enough?”
Paul who didn’t take part in last season’s Dublin panel gave his reasons behind his decision and whether or not he will be on the panel for 2018.
“It’s a huge honour always to play for Dublin”.
“I love hurling but at the same time I do have work commitments and I have to study so it’s just trying to juggle it all now and see if it’s possible.”
“After the club campaign (I will make my decision on Dubs future) and see how the body holds up from there really”.
