Six Nations game between France and Scotland to go ahead

France and Scotland will meet on Sunday in the Six Nations as planned despite a COVID-19 outbreak in the French squad.

The game had been a major doubt after 10 French players and head coach Fabien Galthie returned positive tests since the win over Ireland in Dublin on February 14th.

A statement from Six Nations organisers read: "Further to a meeting of the Six Nations Testing Oversight Group (TOG) this morning to review the latest tests results of the French Squad, the Six Nations confirm the plans to stage the France v Scotland match as originally scheduled this coming Sunday.

"We continue to monitor the situation very closely and are in regular contact with both unions."

French captain Charles Ollivon and scrum-half Antoine Dupont were among those to test positive and will therefore miss this weekend's game in Paris.

However, the French Rugby Federation confirmed there were no more cases after the latest rounds of testing on Tuesday and Wednesday.

A statement from the FFR read: "Following the first two days of the week when the players performed intense physiological exercises and without contact, the group resumes today a high intensity rugby activity.

"To participate in this high intensity program, 10 players from the France U20 team, whose serological tests attest to immunity to Covid-19, will complete the France group.

"These players performed the two negative RT-PCR tests before joining the France group, and will be subjected to daily PCR tests like the rest of the group.

"The Medical Committee declares the risk of contamination to be zero. The Six Nations test monitoring group (TOG) was informed of this device and confirmed that it complied with health protocol."

France have started the Championship with wins over Italy and Ireland, while Scotland were beaten by Wales after starting with a win away to England.
