Tadgh Furlong: "There was such a good buzz out there"

The game may have been built up as an opportunity for Ireland to spoil England's party but Ireland prop Tadgh Furlong said that wasn't the case at all.

Speaking to Newstalksport's Oisin Langan, he said it was a "really physical, really tight game. Obviously we're delighted to bounce back and get the win.

"There was such a good buzz out there. I think everyone was working really, really hard. They are a quality team and condititions probably didn't let for an open, flowing game of rugby but you play what's there and you play the conditions so I think everyone's delighted to get that win.

Speaking about how big a factor coming back to Dublin was, he said: "playing at home is a massive advantage and the way the crowd was tonight, we needed a lift and they lifted us. It's brilliant playing in that sort of atmosphere in the Aviva. We probably capitalised on a few chances which we didn't against Wales last week. We probably let crucial let crucial moments at crucial times slip which is disappointing.

"We probably got our scores early today and when they got that purple patch we had a lead there and we were able to hold out and go back at them," he added.

Talking about the pre-match build-up being dominated by the opportunity to spoil England's Grand Slam, the prop said: "It was probably blown up about Ireland spoiling England's party but it was nothing like that. We tried to rebound from last week and prove to our supporters that we can compete with these lads who are after winning the Six Nations and try to get the best ranking in the Six Nations table as we could."
