Tadhg Furlong plays down Wayne Barnes factor

Ireland prop Tadhg Furlong is targeting good discipline as a key factor against Wales in Friday night's Six Nations game.

The match will be the Leinster player's first game at the Millennium Stadium and it will be refereed by Wayne Barnes, who took charge of the 2015 match in Cardiff when Wales won 23-16 with five penalties scored by Leigh Halfpenny proving crucial.

Discussing that match on Off The Ball on Monday, the Irish Times' Gavin Cummiskey commented: "It's a very difficult place to go...two years ago we were robbed by Wayne Barnes who is the referee again. I don't say that lightly. Really the decision making he made two years ago was astonishing."

Newstalk's Dave McIntyre put the refereeing factor to Furlong in terms of potential interpretations of the laws of the game.

"I think we need to be as disciplined as we can, especially for me at tighthead around the scrum, paint good pictures and try to go from there as a team," Furlong told Dave.

"I suppose we pride ourselves a little bit on our ability to stay within the rules of the game, so hopefully the weekend is no different."

The 24 year old has been within the Cardiff Stadium but has not taken to the field as of yet.

"I've never actually togged out and played there. I was 24th man a good few times in the World Cup," he said.

"I think at the time I was pretty envious of the lads who did get to play in the atmosphere and the cauldron that it is. I absolutely can't wait to throw the boots on and get out there."
