"You Couldn't Write The Script" - Ireland Grand Slam Champions

Ireland completed a historic Grand Slam win for only the third time in history yesterday beating England 24 points to 15 at Twickenham.

Off The Ball’s Oisín Langan was speaking live in London following the huge occasion where he spoke to some very happy Irish fans after the final whistle outside Twickenham.

Former Ireland hooker and 98FM’s 6 nation’s analyst Shane Byrne spoke of the importance of the game and the atmosphere inside the home of English rugby.

“There was a massive amount of Irish there.”

"The atmosphere was absolutely incredible.”

“To win it on St Patrick’s weekend in Twickenham, you literally couldn’t write the script.”

Following such impressive Irish displays in every one of the games in this year’s 6 Nations, Byrne gave what he thought was his Irish moment of the 6 nations excluding Johnny Sexton’ last gasp winner in Paris on the opening day.

“That’s a really hard thing to do.”

“I’m not gonna pick any moment during the play because it was a culmination of a massive amount of effort and huge amount of composure.”

“To me it has to be the moment the best hooker Ireland’s ever produced Bestie (Rory Best) lifting that trophy.”

Also on this morning’s show we continued our league of Ireland coverage with Bohemians manager Keith Long, Shamrock Rovers head coach Stephen Bradley and Graham Burke and St.Pats first team coach Ger O’Brien. We had the managers of both All Ireland club final teams, Cuala’s Mattie Kenny and Na Piarsaigh’s Shane O’Neill following their extra time draw.
