Scotland head-coach Gregor Townsend has agreed to defer 25% of his wages for the next six months due to the financial strain of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Glasgow boss Dave Rennie and Edinburgh chief Richard Cockerill will also see their pay cut, with directors at Scottish Rugby having their income reduced by 30 per cent.

The organisation's continuing to review the potential financial impact on the game in Scotland due to coronavirus and Scottish RFU chairman Colin Grassie says they're feeling the pinch.

"We are working extremely hard to navigate the sport of rugby in Scotland through these extremely challenging times. We would like to thank all our staff, sponsors, stakeholders for their support and collaboration.

"We have a huge challenge ahead of us, but we will get there together and we will leave no stone left unturned to ensure the long term sustainability of Scottish Rugby and the sport in Scotland".

England coach Eddie Jones also agreed to a 25% cut to his salary earlier this month and today Rugby Australia announced that three-quarters of its workforce will have to stand down for three months as part of cost-cutting measures.

In response to the coronavirus crisis, the IRFU have implemented pay deferrals for all their employees.
