'If O'Neill wants a lone forward, Walters, Doyle and I would probably be a better option'

Ireland's Shane Long is ready to battle Jon Walters and Kevin Doyle for a forward role if Martin O'Neill decides to go with a lone striker in the upcoming Euro 2016 against Poland.

Speaking to Off The Ball's Nathan Murphy after Long's Southampton side drew with Chelsea, the ex-Reading and West Brom forward is also prepared to play alongside Robbie Keane.

"Formations change depending on who you're playing against so if [O'Neill] wants a lone man up front, me or Jon Walters or Kevin Doyle would probably be a better option. But Robbie scores goals and he's a brilliant player. It's very hard not to play a player of his ability," said the 28-year-old.

Meanwhile, he also spoke about his frustration as he finally gets game-time after a rib injury.

"It's been tough. Obviously when you've not been involved week in, week out because of injury, it's always tough. I came back refreshed and since I came back the gaffer said I've looked very sharp since I've come back from this injury," said Long.

Chelsea captain John Terry also stopped by during the interview with a message and you can listen to that and the full interview via the podcast (6 minutes 50 seconds in):
