I'd be more comfortable playing bit-part role this year - Shefflin

Henry Shefflin says he is comfortable should he be required to play a bit-part role for Kilkenny this summer.

The 10-time Liam McCarthy Cup winner is currently preparing for an All-Ireland final with his club Ballyhale Shamrocks on St Patrick's Day.

While his focus is on bringing glory to the club, he did speak to Off The Ball's Dave McIntyre about his potential role with the inter-county setup after the experience of playing a reduced role for the Cats in 2014.

"I'd be more comfortable playing the role this year. Last year was difficult. It was my first year experiencing that kind of thing. It's mentally a lot different trying to prepare for games," said the 36-year-old.

He also confirmed that he has not spoken to manager Brian Cody whether he is planning to retire soon.

"Anyone who knows Brian well will not be surprised that the answer is I haven't told him. And he wouldn't expect me to tell him. To be fair to him, he's the Kilkenny senior manager and the best manager ever in the GAA. But first and foremost he's a James Stephens man, he's a club man and he understands how important the club is to everyone. So he would've known that I was going to focus predominantly on Ballyhale Shamrocks."
