Airtricicty league weekend preview

The SSE Airtricity League resumes on Friday evening after the Mid-Season Break with nine games down first decision in both the Premier and First Divisions. In the Premier Division leaders Dundalk travel to the Brandywell to face DerryCity with both sides hoping for a confidence booster ahead of their foray into Europe next week when they will be engaged in the first leg of their Europa League First Qualifying Round ties. Second place Cork City, who trail Dundalk by three points but have a game in hand, host Munster rivals Limerick who will be hoping to stretch the three match winning run they began before the break. Third place St Patrick’s Athletic are at home to Bray Wanderers while fourth place Shamrock Rovers, who are away to UCD, will be hoping to bounce back after suffering their first defeat in nine league games when they lost at home to Cork City two weeks ago. Bottom club AthloneTown went into the break on the back of a morale boosting 6-0 win over Drogheda United and manager Keith Long will be hoping to build on that result away to Bohemians. The final Premier Division game at UnitedPark sees the two sides who changed managers during the break facing each other. Darius Kierans has taken over as caretaker manager of Drogheda United following the departure of Robbie Horgan while John Coleman has replaced Ian Baraclough at Sligo Rovers. In the First Division leaders Shelbourne, without a win in four games, have seen their lead cut to two points and face a tricky return to action at home to Wexford Youths while second place Galway host Longford Town. Finn Harps and Waterford meet at Finn Park in Friday evening’s other First Division tie while, on Saturday, bottom side Cobh Ramblers, meet the side immediately above them, Shamrock Rovers, although the sides are separated by ten points.
