Ex-Ireland midfielder Andy Reid says neither he nor his team-mates believed perceptions that the Boys in Green could not become a footballing side during the Trapatonni era.
The ex-Tottenham winger who last tasted senior Irish caps in 2013, also feels the legacy built-up from that time about Ireland not being capable of being a footballing side are wrong.
Speaking to Off The Ball ahead of the Scotland match, the 32-year-old Nottingham Forest player said:"I never believed that I was no good at football and I don't think lot of people who played through that era believe that they couldn't play football. Try telling someone like Wes Hoolahan that he can't play football. That's up to people, what they want to take from that kind of nonsense. We are starting to come out of it."
Reid also gave his take on Robbie Brady's development in a new position within the Boys in Green setup and spoke about his own injury recovery and a potential future in coaching.
"I was on the A Licence down in Cork a couple of weeks ago with a few of the other lads, doing my coaching badges," he said.
"Ideally, I'd like to be a manager at some point. I'm going about it the way I need to go about it. I want to have my badges done and I'm nearly finished my A Licence now, so I want to have them done before I finish playing and if I can do that, then I'd love to go into coaching and then into management."
