Another Irish international returns to the League of Ireland

Drogheda United have announced the signing of Irish international Keith Treacy until the end of the season.

Treacy joins Drogheda having left League One side Barnsley in January. The six times capped international also played for Blackburn Rovers, Preston North End and Burnley, along with some loan spells throughout the Football League.

The 26 year old made his debut for Ireland against Argentina in the opening game in the Aviva Stadium in 2010. He went on to play five further times under Giovanni Trapattoni but never scored a goal.

Drogheda United manager Johnny McDonnell believes Treacy has the undoubted quality to make a big impact in the remaining Premier Division games.  “Keith is a fantastic signing for the club,” the McDonnell said. “I’ve been tracking him for a while as he took the best part of a year out of the game to get married. I spoke to him a couple of weeks ago and he said he wasn’t going back to England so I invited him to train with us."

"He was brilliant to deal with in terms of our finances and we are delighted to have him on board. His quality has stood out already in training and I think it has given the rest of the squad a big lift.”

Drogheda United made another signing announcing that former Derry City and Athlone Town full-back Roddy Collins Jr who has joined the club following spells with Crystal Palace and Luton Town.
