Arsenal fans will be relieved to hear the latest injury update on Alexis Sanchez

Arsene Wenger has revealed a positive update on the injury status of Alexis Sanchez which could see him return to the fold in time for their clash against Manchester City.

The Chile international has been recovering at home for the past two weeks after suffering a hamstring injury in the second half of a clash with Norwich.

The former Barcelona player subsequently missed out on victories over Sunderland and Olympiakos and initial fears indicated that he would not be available for selection again until after Christmas.

The 26 year-old however, has enjoyed significant progress in his rehabilitation and has been permitted to resume first team training again. Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger revealed, that Sanchez has been running under the supervision of the Chile national team physio, meaning he has every chance of making the team for their game against Manchester City on Monday December 21.

Speaking ahead of their upcoming fixture against Aston Villa, Wenger said:

'He is back on Sunday, he trains on Monday morning at 9.30am. He is running already… I sent him back to Chile, where he has been running with the physio of the national team, and we will see what kind of state he is in next week. It would be a major boost to have Alexis available to face City as it’s going to be a pivotal game in our title push with just one point currently separating us in the Premier League table.
