Arsenal legend Vieira to take on managerial job in the Big Apple

Patrick Vieira is leaving Manchester City to become the head coach at sister club New York City FC.

The Frenchman has been the head of the Premier League side's elite development squad, but will take up his new role in Major League Soccer at the start of 2016.

Andrea Pirlo, Frank Lampard and David Villa are among the players on the books at New York City FC.

They missed out on the MLS playoffs this season as they finished 8th in the Eastern Conference and 17th from 19 teams overall during the United States regular season.

"He is the ultimate leader but at the same time, the ultimate team player. His time in Manchester as a player, in football administration and as the Head of the Elite Development Squad is testament to his capacity to succeed in all he does and of course his career prior to joining Manchester City more than speaks for itself," said Brian Marwood, MD of City Football Services.

“I have no doubt that he will thrive at New York City FC and all of those who work with him in Manchester wish him all the very best in his new role.
