'Atletico haven't gone away but they have gone backwards'

You may have heard that Fernando Torres was back on the goal trail tonight (if you didn't watch the goals here).

The Atletico Madrid striker's double was enough to keep Real Madrid at arm's length and dump their more illustrious neighbours out of the Copa del Rey.

But according to our European football correspondent Graham Hunter, there has been a slight decline for Diego Simeone's men nonetheless from the high of winning La Liga and reaching the Champions League final last season.

"[The win] allows them to go forward in the only competition they have a chance of winning," he said.

"When I look at the league and the Champions League, they haven't gone away but they have gone backwards in every single statistic. They've got fewer points now than last year, they score vastly fewer goals, they're conceding more goals."

But they are still "extraordinarily stubborn and well drilled" according to Graham but miss Diego Costa and Filipe Luis who went to Chelsea and have "hemorrhaged quality".
