'Bale needs to have a cold word with himself in the mirror'

The shockwaves from Saturday's 4-0 Madrid derby thrashing of Real by Atletico continues to reverberate around Spanish football's upper echelons.

But will the ripples shake Real to their foundations?

Off The Ball's European football correspondent Graham Hunter joined us on the line to talk about the faultlines at the La Liga leaders.

"One of the most cringeworthy things that came out after the game was that Madrid went out mentally beaten and didn't put the yards in," said Graham.

"The fallout comes because Madrid looked as if they didn't care enough. Then of course on Saturday night, the players go out for Cristiano Ronaldo's 30th birthday with pictures and then more recently videos begin to flood out of Cristiano Ronaldo not looking in any way destroyed as his agent Jorge Mendes said he was. It's a really brutal week for Real Madrid."

Graham also feels that people have "found it easy to underplay" Bale's achievements at Real, as the Welshman comes under pressure for his performances.

But Graham does believe Bale is under-working now because he "thinks he's made it", emulating Ronaldo's habit of not tracking back and being single-minded in front of goal.

"I think he's got a lot of self-examination to do. He needs to have a cold look at himself in the mirror," said Graham, who believes Atletico still have "serious difficulties" which will prevent them from retaining the title.

Graham also gave his take on Barcelona's 10-game winning run and how manager Luis Enrique has stopped the "crazy rotation".
