Can anyone stop Dundalk's title charge?

As the saying goes, we are reaching squeaky bum time in the SSE Airticity League with Dundalk holding a six-point lead over Cork City with a half a dozen matches to go.

The Louth side take on reigning champions and current third placed side St Pats at Richmond Park this Sunday and a win would put the league leaders in a very commanding position.

But can anyone stop the Lilywhites from claiming a first league triumph in 19 years?

Roddy Collins and Stuart Byrne joined us in studio as always on a Tuesday and the lads reckon Dundalk are primed to maintain the gap.

"Since the start of the season, their fitness levels have been top notch. They have been by far the fittest team in the league," said Stuey.

"Some might call it a dangerous [six point] lead, I don't see it happening with them. I think the big issue is: are Cork and Pats up to catching them if they slip? At this moment Dundalk are answering all the questions."

Roddy also praised Dundalk's power and enthusiasm and he is "putting his house on them".

The lads also turned their attention to the other end of the table where Bray Wanderers, UCD and Athlone Town are fighting for survival.

Bray's 2 - 0 win over UCD last weekend gave the Seasiders some much-needed breathing space and the lads think Athlone can catch UCD.

Former Athlone manager Roddy thinks the Midlanders are better equipped to secure safety via a playoff.

"For me if Athlone can get themselves into the position where UCD are, they have a far better chance of staying in the league than UCD."

Meanwhile, Stuey believes Brian Lenihan's experience with Cork City will stand him in good stead as the promising youngster takes up a transfer to Hull City.

"I think he's one we'll see in an Ireland jersey very well," said Stuey, although Roddy thinks moving to Hull was not a good move.

"Going to Hull I think was a bad move. I thought he'd go to Eddie Howe down in Bournemouth. I thought that would be better for his development. I can imagine you'll see him out on loan early next season, possibly to a League One or Championship club," said Roddy.
