'If Villa's ambition is to get relegated, Roy Keane would make a great deal of sense'

As Aston Villa fans digest the news that the embattled Paul Lambert has been relieved of his duties as manager, are there crumbs of comfort expected for the club in the near future?

Tonight on Off The Ball, we were joined on the line by football writer Colin Young to discuss the situation at the relegation-threatened club.

The obvious question at this stage is who is likely to replace Lambert at a club that has not enjoyed a great deal of investment in recent years.

"I've noticed [Harry Redknapp's] odds are in there. Roy is 12/1," said Young.

"If the ambition of the board is to get Villa relegated, then Roy would make a great deal of sense. He would really upset the players. I don't see that one at all."

Young does not believe the dressing room revolted against Lambert, but that it was a situation that decayed as time went on.

"Did he lose the dressing room? I don't think so. But he's never totally given the impression that he has the dressing room 100 per cent behind him. Interestingly the Roy Keane situation was an opportunity for him to galvanise the troops, having made a decision that was very popular, but it just hasn't happened since Roy left," he said.
