Messi, Ronaldo, Neymar and Modric all make our combined El Clasico XI

Both Barcelona and Real Madrid have a glut of resources and available talent at their clubs, but we can only fit 11 of the best on our combined El Clasico XI. Find out below who was fortunate enough to make the cut and for this to be forever remembered as the pinnacle of their careers.

GK - Keylor Navas

John Walton / EMPICS Sport

We plump for the Costa Rican keeper over his Catalan counterparts in this selection as he has proved a shining light of consistency in Real's stop-start season to date. In 28 appearances so far, Navas has clocked in ten clean sheets so far and has proven a match winner on a number of occasions for Los Blancos.

RB - Dani Alves

Nick Potts / EMPICS Sport

A stalwart of the Barca side, Alves has once again proved to be a key component of Luis Enrique's team as he has proven a constant threat down the right wing in his 22 appearances this season.

RCB - Sergio Ramos

Nick Potts / EMPICS Sport

Proves an inspirational leader from the back for Madrid, as he manages to churn out performance after performance despite his injury woes. Coming into the season's business end, Madrid will hope he can remain fit enough to lead the challenge on three fronts.

LCB - Gerard Pique

Another constant of the ever developing Barcelona side, Pique is in his ninth year with the Catalan giants and shows no signs of slowing down, appearing 36 times already this season in all competitions as he looks to add to his already impressive trophy cabinet.

LB - Marcelo

John Walton / EMPICS Sport

Marcelo has owned the left flank since his breakthrough season a number of years back. He continues to grow in stature and as vital as Alves is to Barcelona's gameplan, Marcelo is equally important to Madrid's.

CM - Ivan Rakitic

Nick Potts / EMPICS Sport

Has proved a revelation since joining from Spanish rivals Sevilla in 2014 and continues to perform a key role in the Barcelona midfield. He is also his sides top scorer outside of the front three with five La Liga goals, while he has a passing ratio of 88% in the league.

CM - Luka Modric

Nick Potts / EMPICS Sport

We have plumped for the diminutive Croat to partner his compatriot in the engine room of our combined XI. The former Spurs starlet has pushed on on from his initial season at Madrid and is proving crucial to their game. With a league passing ratio of 91%, Modric is proving to be one of the best in the business.

CAM - Lionel Messi

Currently on the hunt for his 500th career goal, we've opted to give Messi the free role in behind our attacking trio. With 37 goals in 38 appearances this season, do we really need to explain why he's in this team?

RW - Cristiano Ronaldo

Forming the right side of our ultra-attacking team is CR7, like Messi, his 41 goals in all competitions this season speaks for itself and his inclusion in our combined XI.

LW - Neymar

Finally beginning to fulfil his promising potential Neymar has emerged from under the shadow of his attacking partners to stand on equal footing, particularly when he deputised as Barca's destroyer in chief during Messi's extended injury absence.

ST - Luis Suarez

Leading our line of attack is Luis Suarez, with the Uruguayan scoring 43 goals in as many appearances this season and continually proving to be one of the most lethal strikers in Europe.
