'All in all, it was hideous stuff by Man United'

It was a good night on the scoresheet for Chris Smalling, but in the end Manchester United's 3-1 win over Burnley was far from convincing.

The performance was in keeping with the recent form of Louis van Gaal's side and The Guardian football contributor Daniel Harris believes  the performance was "hideous".

Speaking to Off The Ball tonight after the match, Harris said: "All in all, it was hideous stuff from United."

He felt United's defence was exposed with both full-backs pushing forwards and Burnley playing a front two.

However, he noted one good thing about the match from a United perspective.

"The positive is that Angel Di Maria played really well, particularly in the second half, the best player on the pitch by a long way," he said, but thinks that Van Gaal's big challenge is to add pace up front to allow for better options for the midfielders.
