During his playing career, former Tottenham and England midfielder Darren Anderton did pick up a reputation for being somewhat injury prone.
So when BBC commentator Conor McNamara tweeted a light-hearted comment about Anderton missing a half-time crossbar challenge during Monday night's Tottenham v Aston Villa game due to injury, a raw nerve was certainly touched as the former midfielder responded in blunt fashion (warning strong language):
@ConorMcNamaraIE pathetic.. Well done you lying piece of shit.. I went onto the pitch to hand out prizes.. You should be ashamed of yourself
— Darren Anderton (@Darren_Anderton) November 4, 2015
Anderton branded McNamara a "lying piece of s***", only for the commentator to then provide audio of the stadium loudspeaker announcing that the former player had an ankle injury - complete with subtitles:
@Darren_Anderton Here you go. I didn't lie. pic.twitter.com/lduGnoUjzj
