Despite a 4-0 win, Stephen Kenny says there is "room for improvement"

Dundalk moved to the top of the Premier Division, for two days at least, after a 4-0 away to St Patrick's Athletic in Inchicore on Thursday night.

Second half goals from David McMillan, Daryl Horgan and Brian Gartland, added to a Stephen O'Donnell first half strike to give the result a more one-sided feel. The game was Dundalk's first, since losing to title rivals Cork City last week in Oriel Park.

Speaking to Newstalk Sport's Oisin Langan after the game, Dundalk manager Stephen Kenny was delighted with the result after a tough clash against the opponents. "They played quite well tonight. Probably nobody in the first half could see a 4-0 victory, because it was end-to-end really."

Despite the one-sided result, Kenny claims the side need to up their game next week against Derry. "I think there is room for improvement. There was periods in the first-half where we could have been better. We're not certainly patting ourselves too much on the back, because we now we have got to raise our level again."

Dundalk goalkeeper Gary Rogers kept a clean sheet in the game, but it was a busy week for the 34-year-old who trained with the Ireland squad against of the upcoming friendlies. Kenny said it was a big achievement for the team's number one.

"It's something he will never forget. His performances have been very good this year, his handling has been excellent. The couple of days with the Irish squad could give him some confidence."

Dundalk travel north next week to face Derry City in The Brandywell. If Derry defeat Wexford Youths on Saturday evening, next Friday's came will be a top-of-the-table clash.
