Dutch legend Cruyff gives positive update on cancer treatment

Netherlands great and three time Ballon d'Or winner Johann Cruyff has given a positive outlook for those supporting him in his battle against cancer.

The 68-year-old was diagnosed with lung cancer back in September but in a statement given by his management team, he says he feels "2-0 up in the first half of a match that has not finished yet."

"But I am sure that I will end up winning," he added.

"I can say the results have been very positive, thanks to the excellent work of the doctors, the affection of the people and my positive mentality."

Cruyff won three consecutive European Cup as a player with Ajax, becoming synonymous with the the Total Football revolution in the Netherlands.

He followed up his sterling playing career by leading Barcelona to their first ever European Cup in 1992, one year after having double heart bypass surgery.

In a career littered with accolades and personal achievements, Cruyff never won the World Cup, coming closest in 1974, losing to a Franz Beckenbauer led West Germany.
