Enrique ends speculation by staying at Barcelona

Barcelona have confirmed that treble-winning manager Luis Enrique has agreed a new contract extension that will keep him in charge of the newly-crowned European Champions up until 2017.

Ever since he and Lionel Messi clashed in January, there had been speculation about the manager's future, especially with presidential elections coming up.

As Off The Ball's European football correspondent Graham Hunter stressed last night on the show, former Barca president Joan Laporta is likely to win the elections and would have had his own managerial candidate in mind.

But, Enrique's new deal is being seen as a major coup for outgoing president Josep Maria Bartomeu before he steps down.

It follows the news that right-back Dani Alves will also stay at the club after extending his own deal.
