Ex-France coach praises Thierry Henry for 'that' handball

While Team 33 indirectly got its name from that Thierry Henry handball in Paris five years ago, the former Arsenal man's actions were unacceptable in every other respect.

Naturally, former France manager Raymond Domenech sees things a little differently, given that the handball which led to a goal for William Gallas then led to the French qualifying for the 2010 World Cup - which they then went on to mar with their squad's indiscipline.

In his new book Domenech praises Henry for having "sacrificed his image for the sake of the France team". He uses it by way of contrast with Zinedine Zidane who was infamously sent off for headbutting Italy's Marco Materazzi in the 2006 World Cup final.

Domenech says that the former Real Madrid and Juventus playmaker sacrificed France's hopes of winning in 2006 "for the sake of his pride."

This is pure bias, but Zidane is easier to forget about on these shores.
