'I'm in a frustrating period at the minute' | Conor Hourihane on lack of game time

Conor Hourihane was left frustrated as he watched Aston Villa lose in the last minute to Tottenham Hotspur while again not getting any minutes on the pitch.

The Republic of Ireland international was speaking to Off The Ball and revealed his disappointment over the sparse amount of game time he is currently getting with his club.

“Yeah, without a doubt. I’m in a little bit of a frustrating period at the minute. I haven’t really played the last four or so I think it is now.

“But listen, I just have to stick at it, keep my head down and whenever I’m called upon I will be ready. Hopefully, that will be sooner rather than later,” Hourihane said.

His last run out left him with little opportunity to impress manager Dean Smith, with Manchester City tearing the Birmingham-based side apart at Villa Park.

“Listen, I’m sure my time will come. Hopefully, as I said, sooner rather than later. I felt like I’ve done alright when I’ve played.

“The last game I played was against Man City and we got beaten here 6-1 so I didn’t really have a leg to stand on after that game.

“But like I said, I’ll keep my head down and keep working hard. That’s what I always do. Hopefully, my turn will come pretty soon,” Hourihane commented.

'We can take huge positives from it'

Villa suffered an agonising loss to Jose Mourinho’s Spurs in their latest fixture and remain only one point ahead of the relegation zone.

While the players will surely be hurting, the Irish international felt that there are positives to be taken from the game.

“Yeah it’s pretty flat to be honest with you. It’s really, really disappointing of course with the last-second goal. I thought the lads did really well though.

“When it all settles down we have to take huge positives from that. Especially in the first half, I felt we played really well.

“It’s disappointing but as it is we have to try to take some positives over the next few days,” Hourihane said.
