Does John Giles hold out any hope for Wayne Rooney?

John Giles believes Wayne Rooney appears complacent at present.

The Manchester United captain is out of form and under heavy scrutiny and speaking to Off The Ball, John feels the urgency has gone out of his game.

"I think Rooney was never really a creative player. His best position was certainly playing forward where he scored goals and could come deep and do a certain type of creative job," he said.

"But he wasn't initiating things from deep positions which Manchester United need to do and certainly I don't think Rooney is a shadow of the player that he was a few years ago. I don't think he has any urgency about him, I don't think he's putting it in as much. He's playing within himself and I don't think there's any great urgency in his play."

John added that he thinks it's about attitude rather than physical, saying, "what it looks to me at the moment is complacent, got too comfortable".

John also discussed how much hunger he maintained during his own career.

"I had an obligation to do it because I was getting paid to do it and also it was an inner satisfaction. When I played football I believed that I was given a gift to play it and I had an obligation to that gift to be the best that I possibly could," he explained.

John also criticised Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, saying that "his behaviour is not normal since the season started".
