Guardiola labels Aguero a legend after he makes history

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has hailed Sergio Aguero as a "legend" after he broke two Premier League records.

Aguero's three goals in their 6-1 win over Aston Villa at Villa Park on Sunday means he has more league hat-tricks than any other player ever as he surpassed Alan Shearer's haul of 11.

He also became the league's top non-English scorer.

He has now scored 177 goals - from 255 league games - to overhaul Thierry Henry's mark of 175.

Pep Guardiola had high praise for his striker at full-time.

"He is a legend and the legend rose tonight.

"I think that Henry is one of the most incredible players I have seen in this league and I think that he will be proud that Sergio is the guy that broke his record. He was a legend and with Sergio it's the same.

"Congratulations, and we will be congratulating him in the locker room. To score this amount of goals as a foreign player and this amount of hat-tricks means you have done, for many years, a lot of good things."

Aguero, who now sits fourth in the Premier League's all-time scoring record, level with Frank Lampard, was emotional at full-time as he reacted to making history.

“I’m so happy for the record.

“But I thank my team-mates because they helped me this year. I’m so happy.”
