Football Manager and Derry City combine for a crazy but brilliant adventure

Last night on Off The Ball, we learned about the way in which the Football Manager game series has become of relevant use for real football clubs.

But it also inspired an Italian fan of the game series to make a 5,000KM trip to these in order to watch League of Ireland Premier Division side Derry City.

Alessandro Colombini (19) from Livorno, Tuscany, has an avid interest in Irish politics, hence why he has become a fan and virtual manager of Derry City.

That love prompted him to make the journey all the way to Northern Ireland, along with two mates, to see the team in the flesh and try to meet some of the players he's managed in the virtual world:

 

 

The game against Limerick which he attended proved to be a dud as it finished 0-0, but he did get to meet Derry midfielder Paddy McEleney and got an autograph, despite the fact that the bemused player "looked at me like I was an alien - he must have thought I was mad."
