A decade that began on a sour note, the disappointment of Ireland's World Cup playoff defeat to France in late 2009 preceded two appearances at major tournaments in the coming years.
Although Euro 2012 would bring further disappointment, ultimately, in 2016 the Republic of Ireland made it out of a group with Sweden, Italy and Belgium only to lose to the hosts and eventual finalists, France.
