Irish defender Megan Campbell signs for Manchester City

Irish international Megan Campbell has agreed a deal to join Manchester City.

Speaking to the club's official website, she said: "It's a bit surreal. I didn't expect to come here - it's a big Club - but I'm up to the challenge.

"I've just graduated and I was looking for a professional team. Fortunately enough, City came in for me and now I'm here!

"Once I got word City were interested, I came straight over and once I did, it was something I knew I'd love to be part of.

"They play the same style of play we did in Florida - keeping the ball on the ground.

"It's a big step up from college soccer in the States so I'm going to take my time, using my first year to grow as a player and keep progressing."

The 22-year-old joins having complete her scholarship at Florida State University where she completed a degree in social science.

During her time studying there she played for Florida State Seminoles and helped them to three Atlantic Coast Conference titles as well as the the NCCA Division 1 championship.

Campbell has enjoyed stints with St Francis and Raheny United, but moves to City who finished runners-up in the FA WSL last year and will compete in the Champions League this year.
