Is an North and South American Champions League about to be created?

Could a Champions League of the Americas be about to be created?

BBC's South American Football Correspondent Tim Vickery spoke to Off the Ball's Football Show last night about the possibility. Are we about to see the best teams in MLS play against South America's finest teams?

"It gives the two halves of the Americas what the other one lacks. The MLS lacks tradition. It lacks exposure to quality, traditional opposition. Down south of the Rio Grande, in South America, we need those dollars."

Vickery states that the logistics may be very hard to overcome if this idea is to become successful. "The distance between Buenos Aires and Mexico City is further than that between London and Mumbai" he told Off the Ball.

The ideal scenario according to Vickery is to play and eight team competition in a venue like Mexico or Colombia where it may be easy for all teams to travel to. He feels the best four teams from the Copa Libertadores and the top four from the CONCACAF Champions League could be the most viable option for a trans continental tournament.

Tim also spoke to Off the Ball about Ronaldinho leaving Fluminense after joining the club less than two months ago. The two time FIFA World Player of the Year's future now remains unclear.
