It would be "devastating" for Scotland to lose Euro 2020 games | SFA CEO Ian Maxwell

The CEO of Scotland's Football Association, Ian Maxwell, says they are determined to host Euro 2020 matches at Hampden Park this summer.

Glasgow, Bilbao and Dublin are in danger of losing their hosting rights for the 12 city tournament due to UEFA concerns that fans won't be allowed to attend games.

If the Scottish government can't provide assurances to European football's governing body in April then the four games planned for Hampden Park would be moved to London's Wembley Stadium.

"We need to get to the point where they are confirmed at Hampden," Maxwell said on Sky Sports News. "That's what everybody wants to achieve.

"It would be devastating for the nation if we lost games, particularly if the obvious destination for them is Wembley. I don't think that's what anybody wants to see.

"The 12 host cities are going through a process with UEFA. We have an early April deadline to confirm the allowed spectator capacity within each stadium. As we sit here right now, no host city can confirm that they can have spectators or not, because this virus changes quickly and we all need to adapt to that.

"We are engaged with and in conversations with government on a very regular basis. We've got a meeting with the cabinet secretary next week to discuss the Euros."

Earlier this week UEFA reaffirmed their intention for a multi-city tournament, despite an offer from UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson to host the entire Championships in England.
