Japan and the United States prepare to renew their rivalry

For only the second time ever in the history on the men's or women's game, the World Cup final will be a rematch of the final four years previously. The United States will be looking to gain revenge on World Champions Japan after the Asian side won the 2011 Final. The previous occasion where this happened was in 1986 and 1990 when West Germany and Argentina faced off winning one game each.

The Americans go into tonights game which kicks off at midnight without conceding a goal since the opening game and have scored eight goals without reply. Comfortable wins over Colombia and China in the knock out rounds before an excellent semi final victory over Germany in the semi finals mean the start the final as heavy favourites.

Japan have only conceded three goals on their way to the final. Two of those goals came after the 90th minute in games against Cameroon and the Netherlands when already leading 2-0. They reached the final after the now infamous Laura Bassett 92nd minute own goal in the semi finals against England.

The United States went into the final four years ago as heavy favourites and took the lead twice in the game. The Japanese equalised in normal and extra time before winning 3-1 on penalties.

The final kicks off tonight at midnight in Vancouver.
