Joe Hart throws social media team under the bus for 'sloppy' error

Tottenham Hotspur's back-up goalkeeper Joe Hart has blamed his social media team for a mistaken post that appeared to celebrate the club's Europa League exit on Thursday night.

An unused substitute for Thursday night's 3-0 defeat to Dinamo Zagreb, Hart, not too long out of bed by his own admission, faced the ignominy of a mistaken social media post on Friday morning.

"I feel like I need to come on and make an apology on behalf of my social media team," he explained via Instagram on Friday morning.

"It's just been brought to my attention - I've literally just woken up - that someone thought that we had won 3-0 last night.

"Sloppy as it sounds, that's the truth."

Taking a 2-0 lead from the first-leg to Croatia, Joe Hart was quick to distance himself from the offending post.

"It is unacceptable and I'm sure it has annoyed a lot of people," he stated, "but it has obviously not come from me, I've got nothing but love for the club and support for the team.

"Apologies, unfortunately this happens but just know it didn't come from any other place other than a typo."

Post-match, the man who did start in goal for Tottenham Hotspur had plenty to say about a 'disgraceful' performance.

"I think we are all more than disappointed, it is just a disgrace," goalkeeper Hugo Lloris told BT Sport. "I just hope everyone in the changing room feels responsible for this situation because it is a disgrace.

"We are a club full of ambition but I just think the team at the moment is just the reflection of what's going on in the club.

"We have a lack of basics, a lack of fundamental[s] and all our performances are [related] to that. When you are not ready at this level, you pay."
