John Caulfield backs retiring Colin Healy for future Cork City role

Cork City manager John Caulfield hopes Colin Healy will return to the club in a non-playing capacity.

The former Ireland international called time on his near 20 year career today at the age of 37.

In two spells with current league leaders Cork, Healy played more than 130 times for the Leesiders, helping them to two FAI Cups along the way.

"He was a pleasure to have around the club and players like that make a manager’s job easy. I speak to Colin regularly and, when the time is right for him, we would hope that he will return to the club in another capacity. I know I speak for everyone at the club when I wish Colin the very best of luck for the future," Caulfield told the official Cork City website

Healy won 13 caps for Ireland and was called up to the Ireland World Cup squad by Mick McCarthy following the events of Saipan which saw then captain Roy Keane ultimately leave the squad.

However, the initially uncertain turn of events resulted in a delay which meant the former Sunderland and Celtic player did not become part of that 2002 World Cup squad.
