John Giles believes Pochettino book is "deadly" but not in a good way

This week, we got a real insight into Mauricio Pochettino's management methods at Tottenham.

The Spurs boss has contributed to a new book by Guillem Balague which lifts the lid on himself and his relationship with the players he has worked well with since his appointment.

However, is it a good idea to have a book out which sheds light on existing relationships within a club, even those that are amicable like Pochettino's? And is mid-season really the best time to put out such a book?

John Giles doesn't believes so as he joined us as always on a Thursday.

"He shouldn't be doing it at any stage of the season. It's absolutely deadly," he said.

"Because you're building up - and Pochettino has built up a good relationship with the players. I think they actually like him. Now, whether they like him as much now as they did beforehand, I don't know.

"Now, when you write a book, you've got to put something in it and especially one of those books where it's inside the dressing room and it's detailed stories - I haven't read the book - but would be told in the book that you should definitely keep to yourself and the players.

"Players are never happy when you're divulging information that happens in the dressing room or happens between you and the players and you have to ask yourself: Why would he want to do that book? What gain is within it."

And he added that a key thing to live by as a manager is "whatever happens between you and the players, or a player, stay between you".

"You never go out of your way, if there's a bond between the managers and the players, for the manager to break that bond or possibly break that bond. And I think that's what he's done here. He's put out in the public domain, things that happened in the dressing room or happened between him and players."
