John Giles believes Ireland should not be regarded as inferior to Euro 2016 qualifying group rivals Scotland and Poland.
As the Boys in Green prepare for fixtures against Gibraltar and Georgia, they will hope to get the positive results required to build the momentum to sneak into a playoff spot or possibly even one of the automatic places.
Scotland and Poland occupy two of the three places above Ireland in the group table at present but John does not think they are superior teams on paper.
"Poland and Scotland are going well but from what I've seen of them, if we pick the right team and be consistent in the team we play, I don't think Scotland or Poland are any better than us. But we have to do it with the results," said the former Ireland midfield great on Off The Ball.
He also called for Robbie Keane to start against Gibraltar given his finishing abilities and the prospect of numerous chances.
