John Giles: "I'm not that bothered about playing England. I'd like to play them in the later stages"

On December 12th, we will discover the three other teams Ireland will face in the Euro 2016 group stages next summer.

Given that we are in Pot 4 and England are in Pot 1, it leaves the possibility that the two teams could be drawn together early on in France next summer.

But John Giles is not bothered about getting England in the group stage as he told Off The Ball tonight.

"I think we'd be capable of getting a good result against England but I'd rather go for somebody on paper, you'd say that's a lesser team. I'm not that bothered about playing England. I'd like to play them in the later stages, which means you've got through," he said.

"It's always a huge match when you play England but what I'd prefer is the Irish team to get a draw that would be more favourable to them."
