Whether it was a clever ploy to deflect away from his own team's poor showing or if in fact he was genuinely angered by Manchester City's post-match celebrations, much of the talk following Manchester United's derby defeat has been focused on what was going on in the tunnel and dressing room area rather than the Old Trafford pitch.
Publicly at least, Mourinho has suggested that City were disrespectful in the manner in which they celebrated the 2-1 victory which all but ends the title race with six months of the season still to go.
But given the United manager's own behaviour, John Giles' sympathy is limited as he told us as he joined as always on a Thursday.
"He had no case. He had no case," said John.
"In my experience in football, it's the first time I ever heard a manager go into the opposing dressing room because they were celebrating.
"When you lose a big match like that - I've been in some where we lost a few - you have to suck that up. You just have to do it. You lose and that's the end of it.
"But to go into a dressing room and saying, 'You're celebrating, it's disrespectful', I mean, who's Mourinho to talk about disrespect. He just couldn't take this defeat."
Mourinho's own infamous on pitch celebrations against Barcelona (2010), Liverpool (2014) and Manchester United (2004) would suggest a degree of looking at one's self in the mirror is necessary.
"For Mourinho to go into a dressing room who were celebrating a big win in a derby match, to go 11 points ahead of him, they're entitled to do that," John continued.
"You cannot as a manager say, 'You're being disrespectful'. Especially Mourinho. How many times has he been disrespectful. He's the fella who went to Old Trafford [with Porto] and ran up the pitch, he's getting on to Conte last year for being disrespectful for some reason."
