Seamus Coleman has opened up to Off The Ball about his support for the Sean Cox charity match between Liverpool legends and Republic of Ireland legends this Friday.

It was confirmed this morning that Sean himself would be in attendance of the match, as his friend Stephen Felle spoke to Newstalk Breakfast about the major development.

Speaking to Nathan Murphy after Everton's 1-0 win over Arsenal this afternoon, Coleman explained how he had come to support the charity with around €10,000 since he learned of Mr Cox's predicament.

"It is [close to my heart]. I got involved as I wanted to do something for an Irish man who I pictured leaving Dublin airport that morning, excited to go to a football game like all people do, and to think that something like that can happen just touched a spot.

"I wanted to help, and then at the training ground in Dublin I met the mother and the son and I wanted to do something.

"Sometimes, putting your name to things is not for personal recognition, it is to raise awareness for the cause and I think I did that.

"Now, with this game coming up, it will be great if people can get behind it because, from speaking to his wife, they are going to need some funding for his care.

"It should never happen. I think that Liverpool, as a club, have rallied around them brilliantly, and I hope that the game goes great."

On less important matters, Coleman was pleased with his and Everton's performance in their 1-0 win this afternoon, as Phil Jagielka was the difference between the two sides.

"We played very well. I think that the confidence of the last results has been great going into today's game and thankfully we got a win that we fully deserved.

"We kept to the same principles. Things weren't going well and we just stuck together - we are playing much better now, and a lot of clean sheets as well, which is important."
